Opportunity Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering Dispensary Support Learnership opportunities in Pretoria for 2026/2027. This programme aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a basic pharmacist assistant.

The learnership will provide a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing principles, emphasizing quality on-the-job learning. Successful candidates will initially be employed in a Fixed Term position as Dispensary Support until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will be offered upon qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and either Physical Science or Life Science.
• Must have obtained at least an average of 50% in Grade 12.

Key Responsibilities

As a Dispensary Support Learner, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitating the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Assisting with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Supporting with unpacking and merchandising of stock, as well as cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves as approved by the responsible pharmacist.
• Learning to accurately interpret prescriptions and act professionally, responsibly, and within legal requirements set by the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
• Ensuring accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, while being aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
• Confirming that all medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a pharmacist.
• Assisting in stock control, including maintaining cleanliness, organisation of shelves, and monitoring expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Following up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments, as requested by the dispensary manager.
• Assisting with call centre scripts and patient service telephone calls.
• Providing health-related information to individuals.
• Assisting with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.
• Reporting on low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
• Receiving dispensary stock in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures.
• Performing any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
