Key Responsibilities
As a SAICA Trainee, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, preparing, and consolidating balance sheet and P&L statements and reports according to relevant accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, local standards etc.).
- Preparing reports for division or support function management.
- Analysing and evaluating assets and liabilities.
- Contributing with analyses relevant for annual financial statements.
- Co-operating with vendors and clients in reconciling account status at an accountable level.
- Keeping abreast with changes in internal guidelines and external accounting standards, and preparing and presenting training.
- Reviewing and updating published guidelines owned by Processes & Projects.
- Issuing and implementing new accounting guidelines.
- Investigating project and other ad-hoc queries from divisions and support functions.
- Planning and preparing budgets and forecasts for corporate units.
- Capturing budgets and forecasts into Spiridon and ESPRIT systems.
- Allocating Infrastructure costs as per approved budget for distribution to divisions.
- Providing support to colleagues in other African countries.
- Providing support to corporate units with respect to specialised reporting required by Head Quarter, such as ADSTAR reporting.
- Proactively understanding and implementing Support Function and Financial Reporting Guideline requirements.
- Ensuring that all SAICA learning requirements, both technically and professionally, are met within the relevant time period.

You will be responsible for the meticulous preparation and consolidation of key financial statements like balance sheets and P&L reports, ensuring compliance with various accounting standards.
Your daily tasks will include preparing detailed financial reports for management, analysing assets and liabilities, and collaborating with vendors and clients to reconcile accounts. You will also play a role in budget and forecast planning, capturing this data into specific financial systems, and assisting with cost allocations. The role involves continuous learning, staying updated with accounting guidelines, and supporting corporate units and colleagues across different African countries from an office-based setting in Johannesburg.
