Opportunity Overview

The Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is offering three Specialised Production Environmental Officer Rectification vacancies. This role is crucial for maintaining environmental standards within the Western Cape Government.

Successful candidates will contribute to ensuring quality and productivity in the processing of environmental applications, upholding compliance with authorisations, and offering essential support and guidance on environmental matters.

Minimum Requirements

  • An Honours Degree (4-year B-Degree) in Environmental Management, Natural Science, Social Science, Geographical Science, or Conservation Biology.
  • Registration with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA). Applicants must either be registered already or meet the requirements for registration, with appointment conditional to actual registration by a specified date.
  • A valid Code 08 (EB) driving licence.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the evaluation of environmental impact assessment and management programmes/plans, as well as environmental monitoring and auditing.
  • Balanced environmental knowledge, including biophysical understanding of ecosystem functioning, interactions, and other environmental aspects.
  • Knowledge of methodologies and techniques for evaluating environmental impact assessments.
  • Understanding of environmental policies, guidelines, norms, and standards, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with the Constitution of South Africa and the Western Cape, as well as principles of environmental management.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures of the Directorate/Department and the Public Service Code of Conduct.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality and productivity in the efficient and effective processing of Section 24G applications.
  • Conduct compliance checks for Section 24G Environmental Authorisations.
  • Provide support services regarding environmental comments and advice.
  • Offer support and mentoring services concerning Productivity and Quality Management within the component.
