Opportunity Overview

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 to regulate the South African credit industry. The NCR is tasked with educating the public, conducting research, developing policy, registering industry participants (such as credit providers and debt counsellors), investigating complaints, and enforcing the Act.

This opportunity as a Cashbook Clerk supports the NCR's vital work in promoting an accessible credit market. The NCR focuses particularly on addressing the needs of historically disadvantaged persons, low-income individuals, and those in remote communities across South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum financial qualification of a diploma with accounting as a subject.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial processes.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable business processes.
  • Knowledge of financial computer systems.
  • Knowledge of bank reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • High numeric skills and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Innovative and self-driven.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cashbook and suspense account.
  • Clear the suspense account.
  • Capture deposits and payments to correct accounts.
  • Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Process accounts receivable invoices, credit, and debit notes relating to applications, new registrants, window decals, additional branches, and replacement certificates.
  • Create and maintain debtor accounts.
  • Report on cashbook weekly and monthly reconciliations of the suspense account.
  • Confirm payments received for new registrations, additional branches, window decals, and replacement certificates.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant statutory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and implement mitigating controls as per the operational risk register.
  • Handle filing duties.
  • Attend to any ad hoc tasks related to accounts receivable.
  • Attend to internal and external audit requests.

  • A three-year Accounting Degree with a specialization in either Accounting or Financial Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the presentation and distribution of management and statutory accounting information.
  • Improve and maintain systems related to all aspects of budgets, forecasts, and business planning.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in line with the updated and most recent GRAP statements.
  • Prepare variance analysis reports and monitor budgets and spending.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and related documents.
