Opportunity Overview

The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) is offering a permanent Candidate Inspector position based in Port Elizabeth. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to public safety and fair trade practices by monitoring and ensuring compliance with national standards and technical regulations.

The successful candidate will undergo an 18 to 24-month training period, preparing them to administer compulsory specifications and technical regulations on behalf of the Minister of Trade and Industry. This position is ideal for enthusiastic and committed individuals ready to embark on a career in regulatory enforcement.

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• Willingness to travel extensively
• Required to undergo 18-24 months of training
• Sound knowledge of the NRCS Act
• Sound knowledge of legislation and regulations related to area of specialty, which may include the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, Customs Excise Act, PFMA, PAJA, SANS, ISO, Consumer Protection Act, Trade Metrology Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and National Road Traffic Act
• Sound knowledge of risk assessments
• Knowledge of Quality Management systems
• Knowledge of inspection methods and processes
• Knowledge of evaluation methods and processes
• Report writing skills
• Ability to use judgement
• Problem solving skills
• Planning and Organising abilities
• Action orientated and deadline driven
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor compliance with compulsory specifications and technical regulations.
• Apply appropriate sanctions for non-compliance.
• Process applications for letters of certificates, sales permits, and market surveillance inspections.
• Contribute to the NRCS Quality Management System (QMS).
• Maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
• Participate in NRCS Committees.
