Opportunity Overview

The Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism invites applications for the position of Assistant Director: Management Accounting. This role is situated within the Department in the Western Cape Government.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in overseeing and managing critical financial processes, including planning, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance within the department's financial operations.

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Financial Management at NQF level 7 (or higher).
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant supervisory experience.
  • A valid Code B (or higher) driving licence. Individuals with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of financial norms and standards (Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury regulations, Provincial Treasury Directives).
  • Understanding of Medium-Term Expenditure Framework Budget processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Principles and Practices of Financial Accounting, Government Accounting Standards (GRAP), Economic Reporting Framework (including Standards Charts of Accounts), and Government Financial Systems.
  • Proven computer literacy, particularly with MS Office.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, numeracy, literacy, management, customer service, project management, accounting, finance and audit, information technology, financial analysis, presentation/report writing, people management, and research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, review, analyse, and quality assure financial supporting information for planning purposes.
  • Coordinate, review, analyse, and quality assure the budget preparation process.
  • Coordinate, review, analyse, and quality assure the management accounting reporting processes.
  • Manage the operational processes, resources, and procedures associated with the management accounting functions.
