Transnet Aircraft Maintenance Engineer: Avionics Vacancy 2026

Opportunity Overview

Transnet, specifically its National Ports Authority (TNPA) division, is seeking an experienced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer specializing in Avionics. This permanent role is based in Richards Bay.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing essential avionic and technical maintenance activities. This includes certifying maintenance releases and upholding high technical standards to ensure the continuous airworthiness of TNPA's aircraft, in compliance with regulatory and manufacturer guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Hold a valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license applicable to TNPA aircraft with W or X ratings.
  • Possess a Trade Certificate.
  • Hold an Avionics General Certificate.
  • Completion of Aircraft Type Course(s).
  • A minimum of 3 years of aircraft maintenance experience as a qualified avionics AME.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all avionic technical maintenance activities as outlined in the Maintenance Schedule.
  • Record all identified discrepancies during inspection operations.
  • Sign maintenance releases for avionic work when authorised.
  • Ensure aircraft airworthiness in line with manufacturer, regulatory authority, and TNPA standards.
  • Maintain high technical standards and readiness of TNPA aircraft for efficient service delivery.
  • Accurately isolate defects and plan corrective actions.
  • Certify own work and countersign work of other engineers, including junior engineers in training.
  • Perform pre-flight and after-flight inspections for every flight mission.
  • Assist with mechanical work where necessary to ensure aircraft safety.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and endorsement of junior engineers’ logbooks.
