Opportunity Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is recruiting Community Members to serve on Parole Boards across various centres within the Free State and Northern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, and Western Cape Regions. These positions offer an opportunity to contribute to the justice system and community well-being.
This role involves participating in decision-making processes related to offender reintegration and ensuring the fair application of release policies. Successful candidates will be remunerated on monthly rates based on the remuneration of statutory boards.
The term of office for these Community Member positions will be for a period of five years, or as determined by the Minister in line with the Correctional Services Act.
Minimum Requirements
- Recognized degree or national diploma in Criminal Justice, Community Development, Social Science, Policing, or a Human Rights related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in community development work and/or Criminal Justice.
- Previous experience in a decision-making capacity is advantageous.
- Retired professionals are encouraged to apply.
- Required competencies include communication, client orientation and customer focus, problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, integrity and honesty, confidentiality, good interpersonal relations, and an understanding of the Parole Board System.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in decision-making processes during Parole Board hearings.
- Act as a facilitator for the community reintegration of offenders.
- Protect the interests of the community, offenders, and the state.
- Ensure the objective and fair application of release policies.
- Perform ad-hoc tasks as determined by the Parole Board.
- Ensure strict confidentiality regarding Parole Board meetings, decisions, and documentation.
