Opportunity Overview

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure is seeking a qualified Professional Architect to join its team. This role involves crucial architectural work on state-owned or leased buildings and facilities across the Western Cape Government.

This position offers an opportunity to apply architectural expertise in a public service context, contributing to infrastructure development, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards, and providing technical leadership within a professional team. You will play a part in developing policies, managing resources, and mentoring future architects.

Minimum Requirements

• An appropriate B degree in Architecture or a relevant qualification.
• Three years of relevant architectural experience post-qualification.
• Compulsory registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) as a Professional Architect.
• A valid driving licence.
• Working knowledge of Architectural planning & design, producing construction documentation, and administration of NEC4 contracts.
• Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit & Sketchup.
• Technical understanding of programme and project management, architectural design and analysis, computer-aided architectural applications, research and development, legal compliance, and technical report writing.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform architectural activities on state-owned or leased buildings, structures, or facilities.
• Coordinate professional teams on all aspects regarding architecture.
• Ensure adherence and compliance to legal, safety, and health requirements.
• Provide architectural advice and technical support in the evaluation of solutions.
• Ensure the adoption of technical and quality strategies.
• Develop architectural related policies, methods, and practices.
• Provide solutions for non-compliance and design failures.
• Review plans, drawings, specifications, and estimates prepared by building designers and/or sub-professional personnel, ensuring adherence to professional registration requirements.
• Mentor and train candidate architects and related technical and administrative personnel to promote skills/knowledge transfer and adherence to sound architectural principles and code of practice.
• Supervise architectural work and processes.
• Administer performance management and development.
• Manage resources, prepare, and consolidate inputs for office administration and budget planning.
