The South African Revenue Service (SARS) invites young South Africans to apply for its Customs & Excise Cadet Learnership Programme for 2026/2027. This 12-month learning journey is specifically designed to equip you with practical experience and develop essential skills aligned with Customs & Excise operations.
The programme's core purpose is to help you successfully complete the SARS Customs Cadet Learnership, gaining valuable exposure, building critical skills and knowledge, and contributing directly to the effective delivery of Customs & Excise operations across various locations.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 with Mathematics or Accounting.
- Must be a South African Citizen.
- Possess a valid driver's licence (Code B/EB).
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime as operational requirements demand.
- Willingness to be deployed nationally to Customs operational environments, including land border posts in remote areas, airports, seaports, and inland operational offices.
- Willingness to undergo security screening, criminal record checks, qualification verification, and integrity assessments.
- Must be physically fit and able to work in an operational environment.
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Between 18 and 35 years of age.
- At least 1 year of experience in an administration, logistics, or customer service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply and utilise systems to ensure accurate processing of information and efficient task completion.
- Assist with various administrative tasks within the assigned division.
- Handle information requests, routing them to the relevant department for sourcing.
- Communicate effectively regarding transactional outputs and queries in your area of work.
- Deliver on contracted performance objectives, adhering to set procedures and agreed service level agreements.
- Positively contribute to and embrace change initiatives within your area of accountability.
- Maintain high quality of work content, minimise errors, and continuously strive to improve standards.
- Resolve basic queries promptly according to provided procedures and guidelines, escalating unresolved issues.
- Follow and adhere to the individual learner activity manual specific to your division or business unit.
- Identify and analyse the type of information requested.
- Identify problems, apply established solutions, and escalate issues that cannot be resolved.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all completed work.
- Plan and organise your own work efficiently to achieve agreed performance objectives.
- Report on the progression of transactional activities within set guidelines to provide timely information for decision-making.
- Understand service requirements to effectively meet client expectations.
- Perform tasks diligently to contribute to cost reduction and savings.
- Comply with identified governance and compliance standards, escalating any problems for investigation.
- Actively seek support or training to enhance the quality and standard of your work.
- Continuously assess your own performance, seek timely feedback, and request training when appropriate.
- Drive your own performance to meet work outputs in line with required response times, quality, and service delivery standards.
