Opportunity Overview
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is offering three (3) Counselling Psychology internship opportunities within its Department of Student Development and Support (SDS). These 12-month internships are based at the Pretoria West campus and are set to commence on 2nd January 2027.
This internship is designed to provide practical experience in offering professional counselling and therapy services to registered TUT students. Interns will also contribute to psycho-educative activities and help foster the academic and personal development of students.
Minimum Requirements
- Currently registered as an MA student in Counselling Psychology at a recognized University.
- Ability to work with people individually or in groups.
- Effective stress and time management skills.
- Strong communication and facilitation abilities.
- Capability to counsel, mentor, and provide guidance.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, function independently, and take responsibility for tasks.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Initiative, creativity, and innovation.
- Effective presentation, lecturing, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to apply a professional code of ethics and maintain confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional personal counselling and therapy services to registered TUT students on the Pretoria West campus.
- Contribute to the academic and personal skill development of TUT students.
- Engage in various psycho-educative activities, including webinars, awareness campaigns, social media content creation, and life skills classes.
- Offer individual and group counselling to children at a local children’s home.
- Adhere to administrative requirements within the Department of Student Development and Support (SDS).
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team.
