Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of a BSc in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology or Chemistry.
  • A BSc Hons or MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

The successful intern will be involved in a variety of tasks, including:

  • Assisting with project management activities within the Bioprocessing Platform.
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment under supervision.
  • Collecting, recording, and analysing experimental data accurately.
  • Supporting quality control and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Participating in troubleshooting and process improvement initiatives.
  • Preparing scientific reports and presentations summarizing findings for internal review.
  • Providing basic support in the administration of the Platform.
  • Undertaking general research activities as assigned by a mentor or project custodian.
  • Liaising with internal team members, including research scientists, technicians, and clients.
  • Supporting the team in preparing for project meetings or presentations.
  • Assisting in responding to administrative queries from internal stakeholders.
  • Assisting with the accurate capture, filing, and record keeping of research data and project documentation.
  • Supporting project management activities by tracking project milestones or administrative deliverables.
  • Following all established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory and administrative tasks.
  • Assisting in preparing documentation for the procurement of laboratory consumables or services.
  • Adhering to all laboratory Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) systems and procedures.
  • Ensuring all assigned tasks are performed in compliance with the Platform's quality management system and SOPs.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all research, project, and platform information.

What the Work Involves

As a Bioprocessing Intern, you will spend your days actively supporting the research and development efforts within TIA's Bioprocessing Platform. This primarily involves hands-on laboratory work, where you'll operate and maintain equipment, meticulously collect and record experimental data, and contribute to analysis. You'll also be integral to ensuring quality control and adherence to safety standards.

Beyond the lab, you will assist with crucial project management and administrative tasks, helping to track project milestones, manage documentation, and prepare reports and presentations for internal review. You will work closely with research scientists, technicians, and other staff, contributing to a collaborative environment focused on innovation in biotechnology. The role demands attention to detail, adherence to established procedures (SOPs), and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
