In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial taxpayer records, ensuring full compliance with relevant tax legislation, regulations, and accounting standards. You will also be tasked with preparing, reviewing, and analysing financial accounts, performing reconciliations, and providing essential support for audits. Based at the Woodmead North Office Park, this opportunity offers a vital link between Account Maintenance, Operations, and Finance in managing Globe and other non-core taxes.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Option 1:
  • A BCom, Accounting, Finance, or a relevant Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7).
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a Finance, Accounting, or similar environment.
  • Of this experience, 2-3 years must have involved resolving financial and accounting queries and generating accounting reports.
  • Option 2:
  • A Senior Certificate (NQF 4).
  • 10 years related experience in a Finance, Accounting, or similar environment.
  • Of this experience, 2-3 years must have involved resolving financial and accounting queries and generating accounting reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring continuous, accurate communication to relevant SARS offices regarding discrepancies and errors, and advising on appropriate adjustments.
  • Performing independent reconciliations and investigating and resolving both routine and complex discrepancies, providing guidance to others where needed.
  • Analysing sub-ledger accounts, transactional listings, and Statements of Account to identify discrepancies and misalignments with other systems or third-party information, then formulating solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining regular reports using the applicable SARS accounting system.
  • Executing specialist input through investigating opportunities and potential risks within the product process.
  • Monitoring the system and accounts to identify defects, ensuring fixes are properly tested and implemented.
  • Monitoring, verifying, and reviewing outstanding information to process relevant transactions according to set standards, ensuring accuracy and preventing fraudulent activities.
  • Accumulating information to review work progress, providing input for reporting, decision making, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Applying practical and applied knowledge of methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Communicating situational interpretations and judgements regarding work outputs and queries in the area of specialisation.
  • Correctly applying policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation in delivering work outputs.

What this kind of post involves

A permanent post is ongoing employment with no end date, carrying full benefits and, in the public service, a defined salary level with annual notch progression. These are advertised competitively and the selection process is considerably more formal than for programme placements.

Watch out for this

The screening is mechanical and happens before anyone reads your CV: the advert’s own application instructions are applied as written, and an incomplete or unsigned form is discarded whatever the rest of the application says.
