Opportunity Overview

The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) is inviting applications for a Project Manager role. This position is central to managing the execution of high-impact programmes and projects within NECSA's multi-discipline environment.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently, adhering strictly to established schedules, scope, and budget. This role offers the chance to contribute to the strategic objectives and operational framework of a significant South African entity.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A BSc Science / BTech Engineering degree, OR a BA/BCOM degree combined with a Project Management certification.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years' Project Management experience gained within a multi-disciplinary EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) environment, and/or commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Executing dedicated projects in adherence to project plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Performing change request management, project tracking, and document control activities.
  • Developing project scope, plan, deliverables, budget, and milestones.
  • Developing project reports for management and clients.
  • Monitoring project schedules regularly to identify any delays or deviations.
  • Preparing necessary presentations and updates as required.
  • Providing inputs and support in the preparation of all applicable contracts in accordance with supply chain management and legal processes.
  • Reviewing contracts when required and issuing amendments when applicable.
  • Assigning tasks to internal teams and assisting with schedule management.
  • Ensuring clients' needs are met as projects evolve.
  • Overseeing project procurement management.
  • Monitoring project progress and handling any issues that arise.
  • Acting as the point of contact and communicating project status to all participants.
  • Working with the Technical lead to eliminate scope creep.
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports.
  • Ensuring that all project management standards and requirements set by project assurance and clients are met during project execution.
  • Ensuring alignment and coordination with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Chairing and facilitating project meetings where appropriate, and ensuring minutes are distributed to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensuring that project scope and objectives are clearly defined.
  • Complying with all applicable SHEQ-INS requirements to implement relevant and effective systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Advising and managing the implementation of configuration management within the projects/programmes.

What the Work Involves

This role requires a hands-on approach to project execution within a multi-discipline environment. Day-to-day, you will be deeply involved in monitoring project schedules, tracking progress, and addressing any issues that may arise, ensuring everything aligns with the defined scope and budget.

You will be the primary point of contact for project communications, regularly updating both management and clients on project status, and preparing detailed reports and presentations. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with a Technical Lead to manage scope and assign tasks to internal teams, while also coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful delivery.

What a fixed-term post involves

A contract post is employment for a defined period or project. The work and the requirements are usually identical to a permanent post at the same level — the difference is the end date. Contract staff generally receive the same salary scale, sometimes with benefits paid as an allowance instead of a fund contribution.

Watch out for this

Confirm what happens at the end of the term before you resign from something else. A fixed-term contract ends by expiry, and that is not a dismissal you can contest.
