Opportunity Overview
South African National Parks (SANParks) offers an EPWP employment opportunity for Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors. This role is based at the significant Mapungubwe National Park & World Heritage Site.
This is a fixed-term contract position designed to contribute to the management and conservation efforts within one of South Africa's vital natural and cultural sites. The contract will run until 31 March 2027.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- A Code 08 driver’s license.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after hours.
- Proficient in English and other official languages, with good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be in good physical health.
- An understanding of basic Health & Safety principles.
- No criminal record; a police clearance certificate or proof of application must be attached with your application.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be involved in a range of essential duties, including:
- Performing protected area functions, focusing on area integrity and wildlife security.
- Monitoring and reporting on problem animals.
- Engaging in ecological monitoring, restoration activities, and clearing Invasive Alien Species.
- Assisting with various Conservation activities as required.
- Reporting directly to the local section ranger.
- Helping with the maintenance of park infrastructure, such as fences, water points, roads, and general upkeep throughout the park.
- Assisting with natural resource management and participating in research projects.
- Supporting field data collection and capturing data onto a computer.
- Completing general administration tasks, including timesheets, logbooks, and reports.
- Assisting with storeroom cleaning, organisation, and stock keeping.
- Performing access control activities, including staff and visitor management, safety, and security.
- Assisting with waste management activities, such as waste collection, disposal, and maintaining cleanliness within the park.
- Helping with the cleaning and maintenance of living quarters to ensure a clean, safe, and habitable environment.
- Assisting with all park management activities as directed by Line Managers.
