Opportunity Overview
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is inviting applications for an International Relations Officer based in Centurion. This is a crucial role offered on a two-year fixed-term contract.
This opportunity involves supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of international relations initiatives, diplomatic engagements, and global partnerships. You will be instrumental in fostering relationships with key international and local stakeholders to advance South Africa's civil aviation agenda.
Minimum Requirements
- Education:
- Minimum: National Diploma in International Relations, Political Science, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- An advantage will be a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: 3 years of experience in International Relations, Political Science, Stakeholder Relations, or related fields.
- Other:
- All appointments are subject to S98 of the Civil Aviation Act, 13 of 2009.
- Successful candidates will undergo security vetting.
- Employment Equity candidates will be prioritised in line with the SACAA's Employment Equity Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of the International Relations Strategy and Plan.
- Coordinate international relations activities, engagements, and related initiatives.
- Promote the adoption and implementation of global regulatory standards and best practices.
- Assist in the implementation of the Regional Cooperation Programme.
- Monitor and track progress against relevant plans and programmes.
- Compile briefing documents for international missions and bilateral engagements.
- Coordinate, source, distribute, and draft responses to State Letters.
- Update the Focal Point list as required and coordinate the submission and retention of trip reports.
- Compile and route report outcomes and recommendations.
- Coordinate the Regional Assistance Programme and schedule preparatory meetings.
- Prepare itineraries, welcome packs, and meeting materials for international guests or delegations.
- Support and assist in the development and implementation of international programmes.
- Support the organisation of international visits, conferences, workshops, and diplomatic events.
- Work closely with the Department of Transport's Bilateral, Multilateral, and Civil Aviation Branch.
- Coordinate international meetings such as ICAO Assemblies and AFCAC Summits.
- Support collaboration with stakeholders to ensure international safety oversight obligations are met.
- Manage the relationship with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
- Act as a key point of contact for the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC).
- Collate information for the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Ensure that policies, procedures, and processes are adhered to and that all findings are addressed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government and related protocol requirements.

As an International Relations Officer in Centurion, you will be deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of SACAA's global engagements. Your work will primarily be office-based, handling tasks like drafting official communications, preparing detailed briefing documents for international missions, and coordinating a variety of international meetings and events.
