Opportunity Overview

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is seeking a Senior Technician within its Technology Division, specifically for Radio and Regional Technology. This role is crucial for the effective and efficient support of SABC's technological operations and resources.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, sustenance, and administration of broadcast systems, facilities, equipment, servers, and networks. The primary objective is to ensure that all SABC technology infrastructure is optimum, functional, secure, and consistently available.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-year National Diploma (S4/T3) in Electrical Engineering (Light Current, Communications, Computer Studies, or Information Technology) (NQF6).
  • A BTech in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the technical broadcast sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute technical submissions to Divisional Strategy in alignment with the Corporate Plan and Target Operating Model.
  • Contribute to the business strategical requirement to develop Opex and Capex investments.
  • Participate in Capex project and system implementations, commissioning, and workflows to deliver on functional requirements and avoid on-air disruptions.
  • Submit Minor Capex & Opex inputs into the departmental budget.
  • Submit Opex motivation to ensure maintenance and systems sustainability.
  • Submit Minor Capex motivation to ensure new requirements are addressed.
  • Provide long-term Capex motivational planning assistance.
  • Ensure products, processes, practices, and equipment are in line with SABC technical & operational broadcast standards.
  • Adhere to service delivery standards and assist the team to achieve them.
  • Submit ad-hoc incidence fault reports and resolutions to customers as required.
  • Prevent on-air technical faults.
  • Match response time to urgency for technical assistance in accordance with delivery requirements.
  • Provide effective technical advice & support to users to reduce downtime.
  • Correctly configure & test digital equipment to ensure minimal technical on-air faults.
  • Ensure compliance of upgrades with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications for integration with internal broadcast systems.
  • Participate in preliminary research activities on best practices, technological advancements, and enhancements.
  • Contribute and implement fit-for-purpose innovative solutions in dialogue with digital partners and principal team members.
  • Contribute to the specification requirements in line with customer requirements & Company Procurement policy & procedures.
  • Escalate Risk findings with corrective treatment plans.
  • Ensure adherence to OHS and compliance with SABC Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with company policies & procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM software licenses.
  • Develop SOPs to ensure broadcast sustainability and business continuity.
  • Participate in annual asset verification exercise.
  • Serve customers in a technically proficient, friendly, and helpful manner.
  • Maintain compliance of services rendered with customer requests and address non-conformance.
  • Provide technical assistance & guidance to customers regarding facility capabilities and alternative options.
  • Attend to resolutions of customer requests/complaints.
  • Comply with performance management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct formal reviews with manager and document as per deadlines (Quarterly).
  • Provide ad-hoc technical and operational presentations and training (In-house) on an ongoing basis.
