Opportunity Overview

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is inviting applications for an Artisan Building position within its Logistical Services Division. This role is crucial for ensuring the proper upkeep and functionality of SABC's buildings and structures in the Western Cape region.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Qualifications: Qualified Artisan with a minimum of NTC3 or N3 & Trade Test Certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in a maintenance and building environment.
• Knowledge:
• Familiarity with fire protection reticulation equipment.
• Experience with plumbing systems for high-rise buildings.
• Ability to work effectively with others, cooperating with colleagues and being sensitive to people’s needs.
• Skill in identifying and solving problems, isolating problem areas, and using appropriate techniques.
• Proficiency in using machinery and equipment safely, without risking self or others.
• Understanding of potential dangers in the workplace.
• Possession of the necessary hand and motor skills to perform essential work activities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

• Providing the Line Manager with descriptions and specifications for equipment and materials required for maintenance or repair.
• Carrying out minor changes and modifications to various systems as instructed.
• Assisting with maintaining the performance and appearance of building offices for optimal use.
• Instructing technical assistants as required.
• Transporting tools, equipment, and materials to worksites.
• Assembling and dismantling scaffolding as needed.
• Preparing tools, equipment, and materials for use.
• Overseeing minor and major projects, and reporting unsatisfactory conditions to the supervisor.
• Discussing and resolving problems encountered with the supervisor.
• Reporting job completion to the supervisor.
• Taking leadership responsibility in the supervisor's absence to ensure work on buildings is carried out safely.
• Organising, planning, and controlling operational activities, including quality checks.
• Setting up and controlling maintenance schedules and formulating daily routines.
• Executing maintenance according to plan and budget.
• Conducting fault-finding repair work in line with developed repair methodologies.
• Performing daily inspections and assessments of building structures (walls, doors, roofs, floors, etc.).
• Compiling lists of required materials and controlling material usage.
• Ensuring the cleanliness of storerooms, workshops, parking facilities, and general areas.
• Producing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activity reports.
• Carrying out inspections of buildings and ensuring adherence to Building Maintenance standards.
• Adhering to safety regulations and standard safe practices.
• Assisting management in sourcing required equipment and materials.
