Opportunity Overview

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) is mandated by the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 to regulate the South African credit industry. This includes carrying out education, research, policy development, registration of industry participants, investigation of complaints, and enforcing the Act to ensure a fair and accessible credit market.

The NCR plays a crucial role in promoting the development of an accessible credit market, with a particular focus on addressing the needs of historically disadvantaged persons, low-income individuals, and remote communities. This vacancy for a Supervisor within the Complaints Department offers an opportunity to contribute directly to these vital functions.

Minimum Requirements

  • A degree in legal, compliance, or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a regulatory or legal environment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience in a complaints or dispute resolution process.
  • Experience in debt counselling processes will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the operational functions of the Complaints Department.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team to resolve complaints in line with internal policies and procedures.
  • Implement the operational plan of the department.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
  • Review complaint files recommended for closure by the team.
  • Effectively handle complex complaints and enquiries referred by NCR’s management.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of complaints management systems.
  • Manage risk, monitor performance, and provide reporting.
  • Monitor credit industry trends and provide recommendations on interventions to be undertaken by the department.
  • Engage with various stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing support and training to staff and stakeholders on matters relating to complaints resolution and the National Credit Act (NCA).

What this kind of post involves

A permanent post is ongoing employment with no end date, carrying full benefits and, in the public service, a defined salary level with annual notch progression. These are advertised competitively and the selection process is considerably more formal than for programme placements.

Watch out for this

The screening is mechanical and happens before anyone reads your CV: the advert’s own application instructions are applied as written, and an incomplete or unsigned form is discarded whatever the rest of the application says.
