Isimangaliso Wetland Park Boat Skipper Vacancy 2026 | Remuneration: R559,746/year (All-inclusive except Medical Aid)

Opportunity Overview

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority, a recognised World Heritage Park dedicated to conservation, sustainable tourism, and community benefits, is looking for a skilled Boat Skipper. This is a three-year fixed term contract opportunity.

The successful candidate will serve as the appointed skipper for the iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority's vessel. This role also involves providing vessel services to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife vessels stationed within the Park when required, contributing to the park's operational and conservation efforts.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 certificate.
• At least 3 years of proven operational experience as a skipper.
• A valid Skipper’s license/ticket endorsed by SAMSA for offshore surf launches.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the OHS Act and Merchant Shipping (National Small Vessel Safety) Regulations, 2007 (as amended).
• Ability to ensure compliance with SAMSA and OHS regulations.
• Strong customer care and communication skills (English & isiZulu).
• Physically fit and able to swim.
• Possess administration skills, relationship building skills, and skills transfer abilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Boat Skipper will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

• Performing general boat skipper duties.
• Controlling and maintaining operational equipment.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Delivering excellent customer service.
• Carrying out daily vessel inspections.
• Training iSimangaliso Authority and/or Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife staff in offshore launching procedures.
• Managing the licensing and annual survey of the boat, trailer, and launch vehicle, along with general asset upkeep.
• Ferrying iSimangaliso Authority and/or Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife staff for offshore routine inspections, ad hoc compliance and enforcement inspections, emergency situations, or research purposes.
• Driving Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and/or iSimangaliso Authority staff for routine onshore patrols, compliance and enforcement implementation, or emergency attendance.
• Being willing to undergo additional training and upskilling as required.
