Opportunity Overview
The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) invites qualified graduates to apply for its 24-month Graduate Intern Programme. This programme is designed to provide comprehensive workplace exposure, enabling participants to apply their academic knowledge in a practical, real-world environment.
Successful candidates will have the chance to develop essential technical and workplace competencies, gain exposure to relevant projects and business activities, and build valuable professional networks under the guidance of experienced professionals. The IDC's aim is to foster a talent pipeline for various business areas within the Corporation and different sectors, contributing to addressing unemployment in South Africa.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education (PICC): A National Diploma, Degree, or Honours in one of the following fields:
- Built Environment: Architecture, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Geomatics / Land Surveying, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying
- Infrastructure Economics, Finance and Development: Development Finance, Finance, Accountancy, Economics, Investment Management
- Project and Programme Management: Project Management
- Environmental and Sustainability Studies: Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Conservation, Geography, Environmental Geology
- Education (IZP): A National Diploma, Degree, or Honours in one of the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Quantity Surveyor
- Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge: Sound understanding of the IDC, PICC, IZP, and their mandates. Familiarity with POPI Act, BCEA, and EE Act.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams). Depending on the field, knowledge of AUTOCAD, WinQS, QSPlus, CostX, Candy (CCS), Bluebeam Revu, MS Projects or similar project scheduling software, Civil 3d, Civil Designer, WADISO, or other Civil/Electrical/Structural engineering software.
- Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of various standard conditions of contract (JBCC, GCC, NEC3 or 4, and FIDIC), various applicable technical computer software, and various SANS, Red Book, and other engineering norms and standards.
- Advantageous: Current Professional Registration as a Candidate Quantity Surveyor with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is beneficial.

What the Work Involves
This 24-month programme provides a structured and supervised workplace experience where you will actively apply the knowledge gained from your studies. You will be immersed in various business areas, working on relevant projects and activities that allow for the practical application of your academic background.
You will work alongside experienced professionals who will provide guidance and mentorship, helping you to develop new technical skills and enhance your workplace competencies. The programme is designed to expose you to diverse aspects of the Corporation's operations, allowing you to learn from daily tasks and project involvement.
