Opportunity Overview
The George Local Municipality is inviting applications for a Senior Asset Management Officer position within its Financial Services Directorate. This is a permanent appointment based in George, Western Cape.

Minimum Requirements
- A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, preferably a National Diploma or B Com with financial accounting as a major subject.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- A valid Code B Driver’s License.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and Auditor General findings in all asset management actions and policies.
- Account for assets in line with financial accounting specifications.
- Safeguard municipal assets and track their use and location.
- Oversee the tracking, monitoring, and management of all non-fixed asset items.
- Provide accurate and timely financial information for inclusion in the Annual Financial Statements.
- Assist the Director: Finance in project planning, ensuring all project details (type, reason, source, method, timing, funding) are known.
- Communicate asset-related information clearly to relevant parties and document methods and decisions for continuity.
- Ensure effective communication and interpretation of functional information, advice, and opinions.
- Contribute to broader directorate or departmental responsibilities as required.
- Support staff growth and development by entrusting them with relevant tasks.
What the Work Involves
As a Senior Asset Management Officer, you will be deeply involved in the day-to-day financial operations related to municipal assets. Your work will primarily focus on ensuring that all assets are accurately accounted for, safeguarded, and comply with the latest financial legislation and Auditor General requirements. You will work within the Asset Management Unit, which is part of the Financial Statements department within the larger Finance Directorate, and will assist the Director: Finance with critical project planning tasks. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to function independently within a structured financial environment.
