Opportunity Overview
The George Local Municipality invites applications for a permanent appointment as a Manager in Infrastructure Planning, located within its Civil Engineering Services Directorate. This key leadership role is crucial for ensuring the planned provision of infrastructure across various municipal and private projects within the George area.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in overseeing the planning, execution, and compliance of infrastructure developments, contributing significantly to the municipality's service delivery objectives and the quality of public services for its residents.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A relevant BTech degree (Civil) or an MTech degree in Engineering.
- Registration as a Pr Tech Eng (Civil).
- A Code B driver’s license.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
- 10 years of post-registration experience, including at least 3 years in relevant management.
- Ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
Key Responsibilities
The Manager: Infrastructure Planning will be responsible for:
- Managing the planning of infrastructure to ensure Council’s involvement in all planned provisions.
- Monitoring the productivity and performance of consultants, contractors, and professional service providers.
- Implementing financial controls, including preparing accurate estimates for grant and municipal funding.
- Overseeing project management to ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
- Managing new developments by monitoring activities, addressing deviations, and introducing corrective measures.
- Ensuring that land development projects adhere to Municipal Master plans, standards, and relevant legislation.
- Managing relationships and communication, providing clear information and advice on relevant matters.
- Supervising subordinates and attending to their needs professionally.

This role requires a dedicated professional to lead the strategic planning and operational oversight of infrastructure projects within George. Day-to-day responsibilities will involve coordinating with various stakeholders to align infrastructure development with municipal plans and standards.
