The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is seeking a Specialist Software Engineer for a fixed-term contract position within its ICT Operations Department. This role is based in Pretoria and focuses on applying system solutions to business challenges.

As a Specialist Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, programming, configuration, analysis, development, and maintenance of in-house applications that support the FSCA's critical business processes and functions. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the technological backbone of a key financial sector regulator.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification, combined with at least 7 years of development experience using the Magic development platform.
  • OR, in the absence of a formal qualification, at least 10 years of development experience using the Magic development platform.
  • ITIL Foundation certification would be an advantage.
  • Exposure to integration services (e.g., SOAP, REST etc.) would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise knowledge of application architecture, databases, and development techniques to design technical solutions for business requirements.
  • Program applications according to specifications and design, ensuring modules integrate with business processes.
  • Test functionality with special data in a development environment and assist users with testing in a test environment.
  • Resolve application problems and modify functionality based on changing business needs, adhering to ICT Department change management procedures.
  • Develop interfaces and link different components with each other and with workflow systems.
  • Train users on how to utilise in-house applications and provide general support for application-related issues.
  • Stay current with new developments in the ICT industry, including programming techniques and best practices, through continuous learning and training.

What the Work Involves

Working within the ICT Operations Department in Pretoria, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of software applications, from initial design and programming to ongoing maintenance and support. Your day-to-day work will involve translating business problems into technical solutions, writing and testing code on the Magic development platform, and ensuring seamless integration of various system components.

You will also be vital in ensuring applications are functioning correctly, fixing any issues that arise, and adapting them to meet evolving business needs. A key aspect of this role involves collaborating with users, training them on new systems, and providing technical support. You will report directly to the Senior Manager: Applications and Maintenance Support in an office environment.
