Opportunity Overview
The Department of Employment and Labour, through its Compensation Fund in Pretoria, is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director for Medical Payments. This is an opportunity to contribute to the effective management of the Compensation Fund's operations, focusing on policy development, strategic planning, and providing essential technical support to provinces and medical service providers. The position requires a strong background in financial services or medical claims processing, coupled with proven management experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6) as recognized by SAQA in Accounting, Finance, Informatics, Auditing, Internal Auditing, Business Management (or Administration), Operations Management, or a Health-related qualification (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy).
- Experience:
- 5 years’ functional experience in a financial services, medical payments, or claims processing environment.
- At least 3 years of this experience must be at an Assistant Director or Junior Management level.
- Knowledge: Compensation Fund business strategies and goals, COIDA, Operations systems, Fund Governance and Risk Management, Budgeting and Financial Management, Customer service (Batho Pele Principles), relevant stakeholders, and Medical related Legislation & Regulatory knowledge & implementation.
- Legislative Requirements: Knowledge of COIDA, PFMA, and National Treasury Regulations.
- Skills: Communication (verbal and written), Business Report Writing, Decision making, Conflict Management, Financial Management, Management Skills (e.g., People and performance management, Team leadership), Analyzing and interpreting information, Medical bill reviewing, Medical Policy Management, Medical aid knowledge (case management), Project Management and Planning, Clinical coding, Quality Assurance and improvement, Stakeholder Development and Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the processing and finalisation of medical invoices and litigations.
- Develop and review relevant policies, strategies, guidelines, and operational plans.
- Manage and monitor medical payments to prevent wasteful expenditure.
- Monitor and provide technical support to Provinces and medical service providers.
- Manage all resources within the sub-directorate.
