Opportunity Overview

The Department of Agriculture in Pretoria is inviting applications for a Chief Audit Executive. This executive-level position is central to ensuring strong governance, risk management, and internal controls within the organisation.

This is a key leadership role within the Office of the Director-General, responsible for overseeing and managing all internal audit and forensic investigation functions, contributing to the strategic direction and operational integrity of the Chief Directorate.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 Certificate
• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Internal Auditing / Risk Management / Financial Management / Law (LLB) / Forensic Investigation
• Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA)
• Successful completion of Pre-entry Certificate for SMS as endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG)
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience at a senior managerial level (auditing, project management, financial and operational management)
• A valid driver’s licence
• Ability to travel and work irregular hours

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the compilation of Internal Audit and Forensic Investigations strategic and operational plans, adhering to quality standards and methodologies.
• Manage the development and regular updating of methodologies, policies, and procedures in line with best practices and international standards (IIA and ACFE).
• Oversee the compilation of the Chief Directorate’s strategic plan, operational plan, Internal Audit operational, and process risk registers.
• Direct the compilation of the Internal Audit Strategic 3-year Rolling and Annual Internal Audit Plans.
• Coordinate with other internal and external service assurance providers to ensure comprehensive risk coverage and minimise duplication of effort.
• Manage the compilation of Forensic Investigations Comprehensive and Annual Case Management Registers.
• Oversee the continuous implementation of the Internal Audit and Forensic Investigations strategic and operational plans.
• Manage the achievement of the Chief Directorate’s strategic and operational objectives.

What the Work Involves

As the Chief Audit Executive, you will lead the internal audit and forensic investigation functions, operating from the Pretoria office within the Office of the Director-General. Your daily work will involve a high level of strategic planning, oversight, and coordination. You will be responsible for managing the creation and execution of audit and investigation plans, ensuring they align with national and international best practices. This includes developing and updating policies, methodologies, and compiling critical reports such as strategic plans, operational plans, and various risk registers. You will also coordinate efforts with other assurance providers to ensure comprehensive coverage and efficiency. The role requires a hands-on approach to leadership, ensuring the Chief Directorate’s strategic objectives are consistently met.
