Opportunity Overview
Valterra Platinum is inviting applications for its Engineering Learnership Programme for 2027. This is a unique opportunity for unemployed South Africans to gain valuable hands-on experience and expand their technical knowledge within the exciting mining industry.
The programme is structured to provide comprehensive training, including both off-the-job and practical workplace experience. Successful completion will lead to a nationally recognised Artisan qualification, opening doors to a fulfilling career in engineering.
Available learnership opportunities include: Electrician, Boilermaker, Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Measurement Control & Instrumentation, Auto Electrical, Millwright, and Rigger.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Engineering Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate with a minimum 40% pass in:
- Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
- Physical Science
- English
- OR N2 Certificate or higher with all four subjects passed, including:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Plus specific subjects as per the chosen discipline:
- Boilermaker: Plating/Welders Theory and Plating Structural & Steelwork Drawings.
- Electrical: Electrical Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics, or Engineering Drawings.
- Diesel Mechanic: Diesel or Motor Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings.
- Mechanical Fitter: Fitting Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings.
- Instrument Mechanician: Instrument Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics.
- Auto Electrician: Motor Electrical Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics.
- Millwright: Electrical and Fitting Trade Theories, Engineering Drawings or Industrial Electronics.
- Rigger: Rigger Trade Theory and Engineering Theory.
- Heavy Equipment Mechanic: Diesel or Motor Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings.
- OR NCV Level 4 Certificate in an appropriate trade, with all subjects passed with a minimum 40% pass.
Key Responsibilities
Participants in the Engineering Learnership Programme will:
- Undergo structured training, combining theoretical learning with practical workplace experience.
- Actively participate in both off-the-job training modules and hands-on tasks within the mining environment.
- Work towards developing the skills and knowledge required for a nationally recognised Artisan qualification.
- Gain valuable technical expertise and practical experience in their chosen engineering discipline.
