Opportunity Overview

Daily Maverick's multimedia team is seeking a Production Assistant Intern to join their operations in Cape Town. This internship focuses on transforming finished stories into various multimedia formats, including scripts, vertical video cutdowns, and quote cards.

The successful intern will work closely with the team on all stages of video and social content creation, assisting with research, scripting, fact-checking, social production, and publishing. This role involves working with existing stories and material, rather than generating original coverage.

Minimum Requirements

  • Proficient in Canva or other design tools.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Strong writing skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Genuine curiosity about how social platforms and algorithms operate.
  • An interest in utilising AI as a tool.
  • Comfortable managing a week's worth of tasks independently.
  • Reliable and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather background information, source links, and archive material for stories entering production.
  • Review first-pass video scripts against the original story, refining them based on editor feedback.
  • Fact-check scripts and on-screen text for accuracy before editing or publication.
  • Develop a range of social content (cutdowns, vertical clips, quote cards, captioned stills) from finished videos using Canva and Adobe Premiere/DaVinci Resolve.
  • Manage content posting across social channels and track post performance data.
  • Conduct research for longer-form documentary projects, including background, archival material, and sourcing.
  • Repackage and update older video content for social media platforms.
