The University's Institutional Planning division is seeking a dedicated Manager for its Business Intelligence unit. This vital role involves overseeing UWC's Business Intelligence (BI) function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and actionable insights. You will play a central part in supporting strategic planning, institutional decision-making, and performance monitoring across the university.

This position is key to fostering a data-informed culture at UWC, requiring a commitment to ensuring the integrity, appropriate governance, and usability of institutional data to support the university's mission and growth.

Minimum Requirements

• A relevant Honours degree (NQF level 8) in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
• At least eight years' experience in business intelligence, institutional analytics, or management information systems within higher education or a related sector.
• At least three years' experience in a management role, demonstrating strategic decision-making and team management.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of the University’s BI strategy.
• Lead the strategic design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of BI systems and applications.
• Support institutional strategic planning and collaborate with stakeholders to design and maintain systems for monitoring performance.
• Conduct advanced analyses of historical trends and current conditions, develop forecasts, and identify strategic risks and opportunities.
• Develop and manage meaningful institutional metrics and performance indicators, translating complex challenges into actionable insights.
• Oversee the institutional data warehouse and test the integrity, consistency, and reliability of data.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of institutional data governance arrangements.
• Produce and present compelling data visualisations, dashboards, and reports for senior management and other stakeholders.
• Ensure the maintenance and enhancement of reporting tools, including PowerHeda, and translate stakeholder needs into technical solutions.
• Develop and deliver end-user support and training on BI tools, dashboards, and enterprise data systems.
• Lead, manage, and mentor the BI team, supporting professional development and a high-performance culture.
• Manage BI projects, budgets, service providers, and service-level agreements.
• Lead institutional BI and data analytics forums, contribute to collaborative sector initiatives, and stay abreast of emerging developments.

What the Work Involves

Based at UWC's Main Campus in Bellville, Western Cape, you will be at the forefront of the university's data intelligence efforts. Day-to-day, you'll be leading a team to transform complex institutional data into clear, actionable insights that directly influence UWC's strategic direction and operational efficiency.

Your role will involve a mix of strategic planning, hands-on data analysis, and team leadership. You'll oversee the design and enhancement of BI systems, manage the institutional data warehouse, and ensure the quality and integrity of all data used for decision-making. A significant part of your work will be to conduct advanced analyses, develop forecasts, and create compelling data visualisations and reports for senior management and other internal and external stakeholders.

You will lead and mentor a dedicated BI team, manage various projects, budgets, and external service providers, ensuring smooth operations. Furthermore, you will actively engage with stakeholders across the university, translating their reporting requirements into technical solutions and providing essential training on BI tools. Your contribution will also extend to participating in sector-wide initiatives, keeping UWC at the cutting edge of business intelligence and higher education analytics.
