Opportunity Overview

Transnet is offering a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical workplace experience. This programme allows participants to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world environment.

The WIL Trainee Programme aims to enhance employability through hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to industry-specific tasks within Transnet. This programme runs over a period of 12 months.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria based on the specific programme type:

  • Work Integrated Learner (Non-Technical - TVET): Completed all theoretical N4 to N6 coursework in Human Resource Management, Marketing, Financial Management, or Office Management.
  • Work Integrated Learner (Technical - Engineering S4-S5): Completed all theoretical coursework in Electrical Heavy Current, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Work Integrated Learner (Non-Technical - Information Technology): Completed all theoretical subjects in Information Technology.
  • In-service Training: Internship: Certified copy of qualifications/statement of results in the following fields:
  • Communication/Public Relations
  • Hospitality
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering

Key Responsibilities

Successful participants in the programme may be involved in the following:

  • Assisting in specific projects within a department or work-stream.
  • Performing routine operational tasks under supervision.
  • Supporting administrative functions, including documentation and reporting.
  • Participating in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes.
  • Shadowing experienced professionals to gain practical insights.
  • Interacting with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to understand business needs.
  • Serving as a central contact point for queries and assistance.
  • Conducting market research, data collection, and analysis to support business decisions.
  • Preparing reports and presentations using MS Office tools.
  • Following company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring adherence to ethical and professional standards, and maintaining confidentiality.
