Opportunity Overview

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is an independent statutory body established under the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act No. 74 of 1996. As a Schedule 3A entity, the SIU's core mandate is to investigate allegations of corruption, malpractice, and maladministration within government departments, municipalities, and State-Owned Entities. A key function of the SIU is to recover financial losses incurred by these State institutions.

The SIU is offering an exciting opportunity for a Trainer in Forensic and Digital Investigations. This is a two-year fixed-term contract position based in Pretoria, with an annual remuneration ranging from R902,484.07 to R1,313,778.27. The successful candidate will provide expert training to anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies across South Africa, SADC, and the broader continent.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates interested in this role should meet the following criteria:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Forensic, Financial, and Digital Investigations.
  • Knowledge of assessing Learner Portfolios of Evidence (PoEs).
  • In-depth understanding of the Special Investigating Unit and Special Investigations Tribunal Act 74 of 1996.
  • In-depth understanding of the legislative environment governing procurement and financial investigations in South Africa.
  • Basic knowledge of computer science, cyber investigations, and open-source intelligence.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting digital investigations, including cyber forensic investigations and open-source intelligence.
  • Sound knowledge of the South African law enforcement environment.
  • Experience in developing anti-corruption learning material.
  • Accredited Trainer and Assessor certification.

Key Responsibilities

The Trainer: Forensic and Digital Investigations will be responsible for:

  • Developing and delivering training programs focused on Forensic Investigations, including digital investigations such as cyber forensics, cryptocurrency, open-source intelligence, AI investigations, Beneficial Ownership, and Procurement Investigations.
  • Guiding the Senior Practitioner: Trainer on curricular development work.
  • Creating technical course content and ensuring alignment with curriculum development, accreditation, and qualification standards.
  • Assessing learner performance and uploading results to the Public Sector Education and Training database, as well as the SIU Anti-Corruption and Cyber Academy Learning Management System (Moodle Platform).
  • Collaborating with international cyber experts to stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in the field.
  • Working with international cyber experts to create digital training content.
  • Training officers from law enforcement agencies within South Africa and the continent.
  • Training Officers from the Office of the Premier in respective Provincial Offices.
  • Collaborating with institutions of higher learning on content creation.
  • Uploading learning material onto the Moodle online learning platform and developing assessment questions.
  • Administering the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure seamless delivery of online training programs.
  • Staying informed on legislative frameworks regulating procurement investigations, financial crime, and illicit financial flow.
  • Keeping up to date with trends in financial and digital investigations.
