Opportunity Overview
South African Tourism invites applications for a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) Sales Manager. This pivotal role is based at their Head Office in Sandton, within the South Africa National Convention Bureau (SANCB) business unit.
This is an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to drive sales activities aimed at securing business events for South Africa as a premier destination. The MICE Sales Manager will contribute significantly to promoting the country's business events capabilities globally.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Sales and Marketing, Travel and Tourism, Business Management, or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Sales and Marketing, with proven success in planning and executing sales strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support programmes undertaken by the SANCB sales team.
- Source, research, qualify, and convert leads into secured business for the destination.
- Partake in sales engagements with clients to convert leads into bidding opportunities.
- Manage and coordinate the end-to-end bidding process to secure business events, including lobbying and bid promotion.
- Manage administrative processes of the bid support programme, including evaluation, scoring, motivations, and issuing support letters.
- Manage all sales leads, accounts, contact, and event profiles on the SANCB’s CRM system.
- Provide business partnering services to South African Tourism’s country offices, hubs, and Provincial Convention Bureaus.
- Conduct research into key industries and sectors to generate sales leads and insights for international MICE events.
- Develop relationships with international exhibition organisers and promote exhibition opportunities in South Africa.
- Meet sales targets in accordance with SANCB goals and objectives.
- Generate and qualify sales leads from tradeshows and sales promotions activities.
- Follow up on all sales leads using the CRM system to monitor and report on progress.
- Maintain accurate database records and follow-up procedures.
- Achieve and grow sales targets through bid submissions.
- Contribute to the attainment of overall sales targets in line with SANCB goals and objectives.
- Plan and conduct sales activities, including promotions, tradeshow arrangements, and bid presentations.
- Provide assistance and input into the sales plan for the SANCB as required.
- Generate a draft budget for annual sales activities, including logistical considerations.
- Monitor sales performance and prepare regular sales reports.
- Gather and record market intelligence and competitive information relevant to specific bids.
- Keep up to date with South Africa’s Business Events products and services.
- Provide support for other Business Events related activities as directed by SANCB strategy.
- Oversee and manage the International Hosted Buyer Programme for Meetings Africa and related sales activities.
- Engage with business unit heads to provide an advisory MICE Sales role and guidance on strategic SANCB management processes.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to promote the South African brand.
- Prepare monthly performance and insights reports and make presentations.
- Actively participate in management meetings, committees, and relevant governance structures.
- Positively support the implementation of all management decisions.
What the Work Involves
As the MICE Sales Manager, you will be instrumental in promoting South Africa as a prime destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. Your day-to-day work will involve active lead generation, client engagement, and meticulous management of the bidding process, utilising the SANCB’s CRM system for tracking and reporting. You will also be responsible for conducting market research to identify new opportunities and developing strategic relationships with international organisers and key stakeholders.
Working from the Head Office in Sandton, you will report to the General Manager: MICE Sales. You will collaborate closely with the SANCB sales team, various country offices, and Provincial Convention Bureaus, ensuring a coordinated approach to sales activities. The role also includes planning and conducting sales promotions, tradeshows, and bid presentations, which will involve representing South African Tourism to a global audience.
