Opportunity Overview

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is looking for a skilled Software Tester to join their team in Brooklyn. This role is crucial for ensuring that SARS delivers high-quality, reliable, and compliant technology solutions within its complex environment.

The successful candidate will be part of the Systems Qualification and Testing team, responsible for carrying out testing activities across the software development lifecycle. This involves applying established testing methodologies, tools, and standards to design, execute, and monitor test cases, as well as to identify and track defects effectively before systems are released for production.

This position offers the opportunity to strengthen testing capabilities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing service delivery across SARS’ digital platforms.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Option 1:
• A Higher Certificate (NQF Level 5) in Information Technology.
• 3 years of Software testing experience.
• Completed a course in Practical Software Testing or a similar software testing course.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and testing tools such as Octane.
• Option 2:
• A Senior Certificate (NQF 4 / Grade 12).
• 4 years of Software experience.
• Completed a course in Practical Software Testing or a similar software testing course.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and testing tools such as Octane.

Key Responsibilities

The Software Tester will be responsible for:

• Executing daily workload related to test lifecycle activities.
• Developing a detailed understanding of the systems to be tested.
• Executing assigned test cases within Octane.
• Executing a varied range of test cases and recording defects according to divisional policy and procedures.
• Continuously updating defect management systems to reflect accurate and timely defect registration and status.
• Actively participating at all Testing Levels (Unit, Systems, Regression, Stability, Distribution) and in the Testing Life-Cycle.
• Applying and utilising systems to ensure efficient and effective service delivery, optimised quality, and financial accuracy.
• Conducting test activities to verify specific actions or functions of the application.
• Updating Octane to reflect testing progress.
• Communicating transactional outputs and queries according to policies and quality requirements.
• Contributing to the development and improvement of area-specific standards, procedures, and processes.
