Opportunity Overview

The South African Nursing Council (SANC) is a statutory body dedicated to upholding standards in nursing education, training, and practice across South Africa. Established by the Nursing Act, 1944, and currently operating under the Nursing Act, 2005, SANC is an autonomous and financially independent entity.

SANC is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to serve as an External Independent Member on its Human Resource and Remuneration Committee (HRRC). This is a contract position based in Pretoria, offering a valuable opportunity to contribute to the governance and strategic direction of a critical national body.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education:
  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • A three-year Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or an equivalent qualification.
  • A Postgraduate qualification in Human Resources Management or an equivalent qualification is essential.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resource Management (covering the full HR Value Chain).
  • At least 5 of these years must have been at a Senior Manager or Executive level within a corporate organisation, public sector, or State-Owned Entity/organ of state.
  • Skills & Attributes:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide objective, sound judgment, and independent support to a Governance Committee, Board, or Council.
  • Active professional membership with the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP), Institute of People Management (IPM), or South African Reward Association (SARA).
  • Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with the King IV report and other relevant corporate governance legislation.
  • Understanding of the Nursing Act 33 of 2005.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Knowledge of remuneration benchmark/surveys/market data, pay scale design and implementation, incentives, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with the King IV Code on Corporate Governance, job analysis/job evaluation, total remuneration (including variable pay and international trends), integrated remuneration reports, HR trends, standards, value chain, HR audit, provident fund matters, change management, risk management, transformation, remuneration strategy/policies/practices, total rewards strategy, innovative compensation and benefits strategies, Code of Good Practice in Human Resource Management, Employee Value Proposition (EVP), HR strategy, talent management strategy, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
