The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is offering a Cleaner vacancy based in Gauteng (HydePark). This role reports to the Manager: Finance and Corporate Services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric Certificate
  • Basic numeracy
  • Physically fit and healthy
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of work procedures related to cleaning, equipment, health and safety measures, and incident handling procedures.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of hygiene in and around the workplace by cleaning offices, restrooms, and lounges.
  • Maintain all equipment and machinery used, reporting any defects.
  • Forward requests for chemicals and cleaning materials.
  • Check glass surfaces for spots and fingerprints twice daily; use spray cleaner for smudges and grime around light switches and door knobs.
  • Clean all restrooms twice daily using a sanitizing cleaner, focusing on the lavatory sink, toilet, toilet seat, lid, and back of the toilet.
  • Refill soap dispensers and replenish toilet paper.
  • Polish mirrors, wipe around light fixtures, and sanitize door knobs.
  • Remove trash, sweeping and damp mopping the floor.
  • Ensure trash is picked up as needed and lined with appropriate size bags.
  • Dust and vacuum hard surface floors and carpeting daily, especially in client-visible areas.
  • Damp mop hard surfaces after dusting.
  • Wipe dust from furnace ducts, change filters, and keep outside windows and doors closed as much as possible.
  • Empty all trash containers, reline with plastic liners, and remove trash from the building to designated containers.
  • Vacuum all carpeted foyers, particularly client-visible areas.
  • Clean and polish all desks and desk accessories.
  • Dust file cabinets, small meeting tables, and office equipment.
  • Empty and damp wipe ashtrays in smoking areas.
  • Spot clean walls and divisions.
  • Wipe phones, computers (desktop and laptops), printers, and photocopiers.
  • Set a trash container next to the refrigerator; clean and empty the refrigerator regularly.
  • Wipe down microwaves, counter areas, sinks, and tables as needed; mop up leaks.
  • Wipe down cabinets and food surfaces once a day; clean floors as needed.
