Opportunity Overview
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) is the national body responsible for monitoring, evaluating, regulating, investigating, inspecting, registering, and controlling medicines, scheduled substances, clinical trials, and medical devices in the public interest.
SAHPRA is seeking a dedicated DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR to join their team on a permanent contract. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to public health and safety by ensuring the integrity and accessibility of critical data within a key regulatory authority.
Based in Pretoria, this position is crucial for maintaining a robust and secure database environment, supporting the organisation's vital operations in safeguarding the health of South Africans.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Matric certificate.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or an equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification as recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in database security, design, support, and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
- Conducting data user requirement sessions with relevant stakeholders.
- Documenting, validating, and verifying all collected requirements.
- Transforming database designs and specifications into prototypes and programming integration with other systems.
- Designing data structures to deliver enterprise-grade database design.
- Analysing user/project requirements and creating appropriate database designs in conjunction with other developers.
- Contributing to all phases of the development lifecycle and designing necessary detailed flow charts and input-output forms/reports.
- Conducting and facilitating all forms of software testing to ensure product quality.
- Developing system test cases for quality assurance.
- Preparing, securing, and maintaining infrastructure for housing new and/or existing applications.
- Providing day-to-day support for all application systems within the organisation.
- Producing documentation for all completed projects, including Design Documentation, User Requirement Specification, and Test Cases.
- Developing Policies and Standard Operating Procedures to regulate appropriate use of databases within the organisation.
- Playing a direct role in negotiating contracts with IT service providers.
- Participating in supply chain processes to compare pricing and vendor bids within the ICT budget.
- Participating in policy development and implementation.
- Mitigating identified risks through effective software and systems development.
- Participating in budget development activities and drafting specifications for procurement.
- Managing own performance in accordance with performance management processes and individual development plan.
- Demonstrating commitment to living SAHPRA values in the execution of duties.
