Opportunity Overview
Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is offering a 24-month SETA Special Dispensation Internship in Internal Audit. This programme is designed to equip young, unemployed South African citizens with practical experience in the audit and risk management environment.
This internship aims to enhance participants' employability and provide them with valuable skills to compete in the job market. Successful candidates will gain exposure to the daily operations and critical functions of an internal audit and risk management department within a university setting.
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of an Honours Degree (NQF 8) in Internal Auditing, Accounting, or Auditing (a transcript must be attached).
- Must be a new entrant into the audit and risk management environment, meaning you should not have previously worked or held an internship in this field.
- Knowledge of audit and risk management software (such as ITS or Blackboard) will be an advantage.
- Computer literacy is essential, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access/Database, Internet, and email.
- A willingness to learn about audit and risk management practices.
- Ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
- Must be a South African citizen.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of the annual audit plan.
- Support the conducting of internal audits for the university, including making arrangements, conducting entrance and exit conferences, preparing and maintaining files of work papers, and preparing audit findings and reports.
- Assist in conducting risk assessments and identifying risks within the functions being audited.
- Help in reporting on expenditure.
- Contribute to the overall development of SMU and actively work to improve institutional culture.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
