Opportunity Overview

Robben Island Museum is seeking an experienced individual to join its Human Resources Department as an Ambulance Supervisor. This permanent appointment is based in Cape Town.

This role involves managing the daily operations and performance of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team, including crews, vehicles, and equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring efficient ambulance services and high-quality patient care within the pre-hospital emergency medical services system.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid Intermediate Life Support (ILS) Certification or equivalent qualification.
• Valid CPD Compliance Letter.
• Valid Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
• Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) Licence.
• Valid Driver’s License code C1 with a valid PDP and at least three (3) years of driving experience.
• Five (5) years’ experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) providing Intermediate life support (ILS), of which three (3) years must have been at a supervisory level.
• National Diploma of Health Science in Emergency Medical Care will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily ambulance operations, including staff scheduling and resource deployment.
• Ensure compliance with medical protocols and EMS regulations.
• Supervise, guide, and evaluate ambulance crew members, including paramedics and EMTs.
• Monitor and improve patient care, safety, and service quality.
• Maintain equipment readiness and oversee maintenance of ambulances and medical equipment.
• Investigate service complaints and incidents, compiling reports with recommendations.
• Serve as incident commander or scene manager during major incidents or disasters.
• Coordinate with police, fire brigades, hospitals, and other emergency services stakeholders.
• Identify training needs and provide coaching and educational opportunities for crew members.
• Manage budgets, resources, and personnel to optimize service delivery.
• Participate in community outreach and public relations activities.
