Opportunity Overview

Rhodes University's Advancement and Communication Division is seeking a Manager: Alumni and Stakeholder Relations. This permanent position, based in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, is crucial for strengthening the mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its diverse alumni community, both locally and internationally, as well as with other strategic stakeholders.

The role involves driving sustainable alumni engagement programmes and developing integrated stakeholder engagement strategies. The successful candidate will build, nurture, and sustain meaningful relationships, create opportunities for alumni to connect, and contribute to advancing the University's strategic communication and advancement objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant B Degree (NQF level 7).
  • Approximately 7 years of relevant experience, which must include:
  • Previous experience in alumni and stakeholder relationship management, OR a demonstrable track record of success in relationship-building skills and mobilising constituent groups.
  • Proven success in running projects aimed at achieving support for philanthropic programmes.
  • Previous experience in a position where work plans may extend over several years, and where a high degree of persuasiveness was key to success.
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
  • Excellent communication (written), presentation, networking, and negotiation skills when working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable creative and conceptual ability with a focus on continuous innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its alumni and strategic stakeholders.
  • Support the University’s Communication and Advancement strategy.
  • Drive sustainable alumni engagement programmes.
  • Develop integrated stakeholder engagement strategies informed by ongoing research and insights.
  • Build, nurture, and sustain meaningful relationships across diverse alumni and stakeholder groupings.
  • Create opportunities and platforms for alumni to connect and reconnect with one another and with their alma mater.
  • Contribute to cultivating a culture of giving among alumni.
  • Strengthen alumni participation in advancing the University’s strategic objectives.
  • Foster connections between alumni, prospective students, and current students.
