Minimum Requirements

  • Education: National certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent).
  • Experience:
  • Relevant experience in the perishable-export logistical chain.
  • Experience in PPECB cold chain disciplines.
  • Knowledge:
  • Relevant legislation.
  • Perishable-export industry.
  • Policies and procedures.
  • Product and technical knowledge.
  • Systems and process knowledge.
  • Risk management.
  • Other:
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle.
  • Must be in good health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct cold chain services according to standards, protocols, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Ensure service delivery to clients in line with the organisation's regulatory mandate.
  • Ensure compliance with the BMS, ISO 9001, and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure completeness of income.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Capital policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective Risk Management.

Opportunity Overview

The Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB) has an opening for a Laboratory Technician in Centurion, Gauteng. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of analytical protocols, particularly the analysis of pesticide residues in fresh produce.

The successful candidate will contribute to efficient service delivery, quality management system implementation (ISO 17025), and effective laboratory operations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Minimum National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience:
  • At least 1-year relevant experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited facility.
  • Experience in the preparation of chemicals, solutions, and standards.
  • Experience with sample extraction processes.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of chromatographic instrumentation.
  • Adherence to good laboratory practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timeous completion of prescribed analytical protocols (SOPs) and accompanying administrative duties.
  • Analyze pesticide residues in fresh produce using the QuEChERS extraction technique.
  • Optimize the use of equipment in the preparative section of the laboratory.
  • Ensure efficient service delivery to customers.
  • Practice self-management in duties.
  • Minimize financial risks within the laboratory.
  • Implement Quality Management System (QMS) requirements (ISO 17025).
  • Manage critical consumables.
  • Assist with method validation processes.
