Opportunity Overview

The Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB) is seeking a Senior Assessor to join their team in Piketberg. This critical role involves inspecting and certifying perishable products, with a strong focus on cold chain functions.

This opportunity requires an experienced individual to ensure the correct application of quality management systems, provide technical support, and mentor junior staff, all while maintaining strong client relationships.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Grade 12 certificate or relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in various cold chain functions. Candidates with relatively less experience but with proven outstanding performance may be considered in line with PPECB's Employment Equity (EE) policy.
  • Competency requirement: a minimum of 120 credits (both technical and supervisory).
  • Required Competencies include container inspections, container loading (normal and cold treatment containers), cold store registration, and calibration.
  • Proven track record of training subordinates.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • A valid Code 08 driving license and own reliable vehicle.
  • NB: Applicants must clearly indicate in their CV what technical competencies/disciplines they were found competent in. Failure to do so will lead to an application not being considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and certify perishable products.
  • Inspect the handling, storage, and transport of perishable products.
  • Ensure the correct application of quality management systems, BMS procedures, and work instructions.
  • Perform administrative tasks.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Provide continuous support to the Lead Assessor.
  • Provide technical support to Cold Chain Assessors and Cold Chain Inspectors.
  • Assist with the supervision and training of Cold Chain Assessors.
  • Build and maintain good relations with PPECB clients.

  • Participate in the relief duty roster.
  • Accept the responsibility of continuous self-improvement in your area of responsibility according to the PPECB performance framework.
