Opportunity Overview

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) invites unemployed youth to apply for entry-level Data Capturer positions. This is a government opportunity at the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria. Successful candidates will contribute to the efficient functioning of court operations through accurate data management.

This position is a Grade 12 / Junior / Entry level role, offering a salary range of R201,093 to R236,877 per annum (Level 04). The reference number for this vacancy is 2026/76/OCJ.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a Grade 12 certificate.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • A Diploma or Degree will be considered an advantage.
  • A valid driver’s license will serve as an added advantage.

  • Knowledge of clerical duties and practices, along with the ability to capture data.
  • Understanding of Batho Pele principles.
  • Familiarity with working procedures relevant to the environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Planning and organising skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Numeric skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, motivated, work under pressure, be meticulous, and self-driven.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Capturing data from records into required formats such as databases, tables, and spreadsheets.
  • Verifying missing data and correcting errors during data entry.
  • Reviewing and validating all data from records.
  • Submitting data and performing regular backups.
  • Keeping and maintaining records and files, ensuring they are properly sorted and secured.
  • Providing information to relevant components.
  • Sending and receiving emails when requested.
  • Reporting IT problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Checking machines and microphones, including fault diagnosis of CRT machines.
  • Reporting faults found during diagnosis and logging queries to the helpdesk.
  • Capturing court rolls from court lists/books and prescheduling cases.
  • Recording court proceedings and related annotations.
  • Searching for postponed cases and adding later recording sessions.
  • Transferring court recordings to the site server at 15-minute intervals.
  • Saving and scanning documents as requested.
  • Ensuring the safety of all case records/court documents while in possession.
  • Sorting and distributing incoming data for capturing.
  • Reviewing and validating all data from files.
  • Opening files, filing, and updating registers and statistics.
