Opportunity Overview

Joburg City Theatres (JCT), an entity of the City of Johannesburg, is seeking a skilled and experienced Hospitality Manager to join its team. JCT is responsible for the integrated management and operation of prominent venues including Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre, and Soweto Theatre.

This permanent position within the Hospitality and Catering Department offers an opportunity to play a vital role in delivering exceptional guest experiences, managing daily operations, and driving business growth across JCT’s facilities. The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 certificate.
• National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Hospitality Management or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience within the hospitality industry.
• At least two (2) years of the required experience must have been in a managerial role.
• Proven experience in managing staff, budgets, stock control, and customer service.
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and hospitality systems.
• Knowledge of South African labour legislation and health and safety regulations.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

The Hospitality Manager will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

• Supervising and managing administration staff regarding client visits and enquiries, ensuring client files are current.
• Regular communication with new clients to maintain satisfaction from start to finish.
• Leading and managing all client site visits and empowering new clients to book functions and rooms.
• Managing daily sales targets and reporting on achievements weekly.
• Planning and coordinating all events and functions with front-of-house staff.
• Supervising service standards from the beginning to the end of events or functions.
• Managing and coordinating all line staff during events.
• Conducting site inspections with clients on available facilities, advising on various options.
• Managing the company's function planner schedule to prevent double bookings and communicating this regularly with management.
• Supervising and assisting at special functions as needed, which may include working outside normal hours.
• Ensuring all events within the Joburg Theatre complex and outdoor events run smoothly and maintain high standards.
• Managing all revenue received, ensuring daily revenue is processed through the Point of Sale system.
• Providing weekly client visit reports to senior management.
• Supervising weekly forecasts of all venue and room availability.
• Managing all outstanding monies owed from events and functions.
• Managing and constantly updating the client database with new client information.
• Maintaining strong relations with guests, Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs), and clients.
