Opportunity Overview

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) invites applications for a Transaction Principal in Infrastructure & Logistics. This permanent position is based in Gauteng and involves evaluating and structuring funding applications and deals that contribute to the IDC's objectives and industry development goals.

This role requires a senior professional to lead the structuring and execution of significant transactions, primarily outside South Africa, within target markets and sectors. You will play a crucial part in originating bankable transactions across the African continent, advancing the IDC’s mandate and supporting key infrastructure and logistics development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: A relevant commercial or technical Honours Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • 8-10 years of related experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience specifically in deal assessment and the closing of transactions, including managing approved deals up to the first drawdown and ensuring the timely conclusion of legal agreements.
  • A demonstrable track record of successfully originating, structuring, and closing Infrastructure & Logistics transactions across the African continent.
  • Declared competent in three due diligence disciplines (Marketing, Technical, or Financial) and grounded in all three.
  • Experience in transaction leadership, particularly for complex deals.
  • Knowledge in assessing all associated issues in a transaction, including legal and risk aspects.
  • Experience in conducting peer reviews.
  • Experience in the interpretation and analysis of financial data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and effectively structure transactions using IDC financing instruments, ensuring financial soundness of all credit submissions.
  • Proactively originate suitable transactions in target countries and sectors.
  • Lead structuring and execution of transactions outside South Africa, including performing complex financial, technical, and marketing due diligence.
  • Lead due diligence teams, ensuring risk identification and mitigation.
  • Design and negotiate the financial and legal relationships between the client and IDC for specific deals.
  • Manage the transaction lifecycle from early screening, due diligence, presentation to committees, approval, signing, and first disbursement.
  • Prepare well-written and motivated reports for presentation to relevant Credit and other committees.
  • Conduct peer reviews across all due diligence disciplines (financial, marketing, and technical).
  • Provide training, mentoring, and coaching to Business Analysts and Dealmakers.
  • Unlock concessional or technical assistance for supported transactions.
  • Crowd in funding through syndication or co-financing with other funders.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events to generate new business and observe industry trends/opportunities.
  • Effectively interact with different Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and departments to fulfil process requirements related to deals.
  • Manage own development to enhance competencies and participate in knowledge sharing within the team and cross-functionally.
