Opportunity Overview

The Gauteng Provincial Treasury is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director: Macro-Economic Analysis in Johannesburg. This role is within the Sustainable Fiscal Resource Management Directorate and plays a key part in the province's economic planning.

This opportunity involves significant work in economic and socio-economic analysis, research, and providing crucial information to support budget management and provincial publications. It is suited for individuals with a strong background in economics and finance who wish to contribute to public service.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Economics/Econometrics/Finance at NQF level 8, such as an Honours Degree.
  • 3 years of functional experience in Economics or Finance and/or related fields.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the MFMA (Municipal Finance Management Act), Treasury regulations, accounting principles, and the PFMA (Public Finance Management Act).

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine and evaluate economic parameters and socio-economic imperatives within the provincial and macro-economic context.
  • Analyse key economic variables, their interrelations, and relevance for the budget.
  • Perform periodic analysis, maintenance, and update of provincial socio-economic indicators.
  • Conduct research that contributes to departmental publications.
  • Support the Deputy Director by producing chapters for the research publications of the Macro-Economic Analysis unit.
  • Perform econometric modelling for research.
  • Provide economic information to meet ad hoc requests.
  • Support the Budget Management unit through research.
