Opportunity Overview
The Gauteng Department of Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Specialist to join their team as a Head of Clinical Unit Grade 1 in Internal Medicine. This pivotal role involves leading and coordinating Internal Medicine Services to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care.

Minimum Requirements
- Appropriate qualification (MBChB, FCP (SA), MMED) allowing registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- Current HPCSA registration as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- A minimum of 3 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA.
- Knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of patients within the registered specialist field.
- Understanding of basic Human Resource matters, including Labour Relations.
- Knowledge of legislative prescripts governing the Public Service.
- Good communication, managerial, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to tolerate stress, work effectively within a team, demonstrate self-confidence, and build and maintain good relationships.
- A strong record in clinical governance, research, and experience in supervision, training, and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- A publication record will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer high-quality care to patients.

- Organize and supervise clinical and theoretical teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Assist in the implementation of Department of Health policies and programs.
- Perform administrative and management duties within the unit.
What the Work Involves
As the Head of Clinical Unit, you will lead the Internal Medicine Services, coordinating patient care from admissions to referrals. Your daily work will involve conducting grand and consultant ward rounds, providing comprehensive care, and managing patient consultations within the Outpatients Department. You will also be responsible for guiding and supervising junior medical staff and students, ensuring they receive effective clinical and theoretical teaching.
The role requires active involvement in administrative and management tasks within the unit, ensuring the smooth operation of services and adherence to Department of Health policies. You will work within a clinical setting, collaborating with various disciplines and facilitating outreach to other healthcare facilities to ensure integrated patient management.
