Opportunity Overview

The Department of Defence is inviting applications for an Administration Clerk: Production role within the South African Military Health Service. This opportunity is based at the Institute for Maritime Medicine (IMM) in Simonstown, Cape Town.

This position involves crucial administrative and clerical support within a medical environment, contributing to the efficient functioning of healthcare services. You will be responsible for a range of tasks from managing patient data to providing reception services, ensuring smooth operations in a dynamic setting.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Knowledge of clerical duties and practices.
  • Ability to capture data, operate a computer, and collect statistics.
  • Understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service.
  • Knowledge of working procedures relevant to the administrative environment.
  • Planning and organisation skills.
  • Language skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Computer literacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure an effective reception service.
  • Record, organise, store, and retrieve information related to the administrative environment.
  • Deal directly with clients by requesting and providing information.
  • Capture patient health data.
  • Compile routine administration output control statistics.
  • Retrieve records for Health Care Professionals (HCPs) and management.
  • Render comprehensive clinic/ward reception and secretarial duties.
  • Process and capture health records on the Military Medical Main Frame.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and Health Care Professionals.
