Opportunity Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is seeking dedicated professionals to fill the pivotal role of Regional Head: Finance. This position offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the financial integrity and strategic management within the correctional services framework in South Africa. Successful candidates will be appointed under the Correctional Service Act.
This senior management role is crucial for ensuring effective financial administration, supply chain management, and compliance across the Gauteng and Western Cape regions. It involves providing expert support and advice to senior leadership, managing key financial processes, and overseeing human resources, finances, and assets within the region.
Minimum Requirements
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Financial Management, Cost Management Accounting, or an equivalent qualification as recognised by SAQA.
- A compulsory Certificate for entry into the Senior Management Services (SMS) obtained from the National School of Government (NSG), required prior to appointment.
- Five years of experience at a middle or senior managerial level within a similar environment.
- Computer literate.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Required Knowledge includes the South African Criminal Justice System, Correctional Services Architecture, public service policy, and related legislative frameworks such as the Public Service Act and Regulations, Public Finance Management Act, with a specific emphasis on the Correctional Service Act 111 of 1998 as amended.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support and advice to the Regional Commissioner and senior managers on finance and supply chain management matters.
- Ensure effective management of financial accounting.
- Oversee effective management of management accounting.
- Manage logistic administration effectively.
- Implement effective management of procurement and contract management processes.
- Manage the external audit process.
- Implement effective risk management to ensure compliance with the risk management plan of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
- Manage performance information.
- Manage human resources, finances, and assets within the region.
