Opportunity Overview
Correctional Services is seeking a highly experienced individual for the role of Regional Head: Facilities in the Eastern Cape region. This senior management position offers an all-inclusive annual package of R1,340,691.
This pivotal role involves overseeing the facilities function, ensuring operational effectiveness, strategic maintenance implementation, and compliance with key legislative frameworks across the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading teams, managing resources, and maintaining the infrastructure vital to the department's operations.
Minimum Requirements
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) as recognised by SAQA in Building Science or an equivalent field.
- A certificate for entry into the Senior Management Services (SMS) obtained from the National School of Government (NSG) is compulsory prior to appointment.
- Five years of experience at a middle or senior managerial level in a similar environment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to obtain security clearance.
- Knowledge and understanding of the South African Criminal Justice System and Correctional Services architecture.
- Understanding of public service policy and related legislative frameworks, including the Public Service Act and Regulations, Public Finance Management Act, and the Correctional Service Act 111 of 1998 (as amended).
- Registration with the relevant professional council of South Africa will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate policy and implement new policies, procedures, and standards within the facilities sector.
- Monitor the effectiveness of established policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain the operational effectiveness of all facilities.
- Implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy through the provision of appropriate structures, systems, and resources.
- Conduct quality assessments of facilities on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure that proper maintenance is carried out and documented, and that maintenance teams are adequately trained, housed, financed, and equipped for their tasks.
- Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and facilitate required training.
- Continuously update the building and maintenance programme for the region.
- Ensure that priorities in the building and maintenance programme align with departmental strategies and objectives.
- Ensure the effective and cost-efficient provision of municipal services throughout the region.
- Ensure that payments for municipal services are made in a timeous manner.
- Manage human resources, finances, and assets within the facilities portfolio.
- Manage performance information relevant to facilities operations.
