Opportunity Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications for the Director: Information Management position, based at its National Head Office in Pretoria. This senior managerial role is crucial for leading the department's information governance, knowledge management, and compliance with relevant legislation.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in overseeing the implementation of records management frameworks, managing access to information, and ensuring adherence to regulations like PAIA and POPIA. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the strategic management of information within the public service, operating under the Correctional Service Act.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this Director position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 07) in Information and Knowledge Management or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience at middle or senior managerial level within a similar environment.
- A compulsory Certificate for entry into the Senior Management Services (SMS) obtained from the National School of Government (NSG) is required prior to appointment.
- In-depth knowledge of information and records management.
- Proficiency in computer literacy.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Knowledge and understanding of the South African Criminal Justice System and the Correctional Services architecture.
- Understanding of public service policy and related legislative framework, including the Public Service Act and Regulations, Public Finance Management Act, and the Correctional Service Act 111 of 1998 as amended.
- Demonstrated competencies in strategic capability and leadership, project and programme management, financial management, and change management.
Key Responsibilities
The Director: Information Management will be responsible for a range of strategic and operational duties, including:
- Leading information governance and records management initiatives.
- Overseeing the implementation of the departmental records management framework.
- Managing knowledge management and institutional learning, including the implementation of the knowledge management strategy.
- Administering PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act) and managing access to information requests.
- Ensuring POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act) compliance and protecting personal information.
- Developing and implementing POPIA policies, procedures, and a compliance roadmap.
- Building capacity and fostering a compliance culture through training and awareness programmes.
- Managing performance information.
- Overseeing human resources, finances, and assets within the unit.
